چکیده

In the present work, preparation of activated carbon pellets from cigarette butts by thermal treatment was evaluated. The morphological, textural, topological, and surface chemical properties were studied SEM-EDX, N2 adsorption, Raman, FTIR spectroscopy. For adsorption assays, tested for phenol as a model molecule at different solution pH, temperature, type water. addition, leaching tests before after carbonization conducted to evaluate lixiviation ions in solid. results revealed microporous material, composed cylindrical fibers (thickness 13 µm) with area 713 m2/g narrow uniform slit-shaped pores (0.4–0.8 nm). chemistry analysis evidenced presence oxygenated groups (carboxylic, esters, phenolics). Activated indicated that concentrations leached did not exceed maximum permissible limit drinking Phenol an exothermic process capacity 272 mg/g 10 °C. Finally, it confirmed diffusion drastically affected hindered phenomena due similarity molecular size average micropores, result effective coefficient between 6.10 × 10?0 5.50 10?12 cm2/s tortuosity value 3.3 obtained.

Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies on Lead (II) Adsorption by Sugarcane Bagasse Derived Activated Carbon (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Municipal and industrial wastewater contain a lot of contaminants. The major contaminants of concern are heavy metals. Heavy metals are known to be toxic, non-biodegradable and have a long half-life. The release of untreated wastewater containing heavy metals can cause serious problems to human, plants and animals. In this study, activated carbon was developed from sugarcane bagasse and its eff...

Phenol Removal from Aqueous Solutions by Adsorption on Activated Carbon of Miswak’s Root Treated with KMnO4

Background and Purpose: Phenol and derivatives are common pollutants of drinking water which are blamed for crucial adverse effects such as poisoning, cancer, and malformation. In this study, an activated carbon of Miswak’s root (MR) was used for the removal of phenol from aqueous solutions as a low-cost and high surface adsorbent. Materials and Methods: Adsorption exper...

Adsorption of Pb(II) by activated carbon prepared from Melia azedarach fruit: Equilibrium and thermodynamics

In this work, a low-cost activated carbon as well as non-hazardous material, with high adsorption capacity, was prepared from Melia azedarach fruit (MF) by ZnCl2 activation for the removal of Pb(II) toxic metal from aqueous solutions. The microstructure of the activated carbon was observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Batch experiments have been performed as a function of pH, contact ...

Statistical physics modeling of equilibrium adsorption of cadmium ions onto activated carbon, chitosan and chitosan/activated carbon composite

The adsorption ability of activated carbon, chitosan, and chitosan/activated carbon composite for cadmium separation from aqueous solution was analyzed via statistical physical modeling. The equilibrium data were analyzed by Langmuir, Hill, double layer model, and the multi-layer model with saturation isotherm models. Results showed that the multi-layer model with saturation could well describe...
